The Statue of Liberty is a colossal neoclassical sculpture located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, USA. It was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and was dedicated on October 28, 1886, as a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States.
The statue is of a woman holding a torch in her right hand and a tablet inscribed with the date of the American Declaration of Independence in her left hand. She is dressed in a flowing robe and wears a crown with seven rays, symbolizing the seven seas and continents of the world.
The statue is made of copper and stands 151 feet (46 meters) tall, with the pedestal adding an additional 154 feet (47 meters) for a total height of 305 feet (93 meters). The torch was restored in 1986 to celebrate the statue's centennial and was later replaced with a new copper torch covered in 24-carat gold leaf.
The statue has become an iconic symbol of freedom and democracy, welcoming millions of immigrants and visitors to the United States. It is a popular tourist destination and has been featured in numerous films, books, and other media.
