Sabrage!

Sabrage is a technique used to open a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine using a saber or a similar type of sword. The process involves removing the wire cage and foil from the bottle, holding the bottle at a 45-degree angle, and using a swift motion to slide the saber along the seam of the bottle to hit the lip of the bottle, causing the top of the bottle to break off cleanly. It is believed that this tradition dates back to the time of Napoleon Bonaparte when soldiers would use their swords to open bottles of champagne to celebrate victories. Sabrage is often performed as part of ceremonial events and special occasions.
