Amy Beach (1867-1944) was an American composer and pianist, known for her contributions to the classical music world.

Born as Amy Marcy Cheney in New Hampshire, she displayed an early talent for music and began composing at a young age. Despite the social norms of the time, she received a comprehensive musical education and performed in public concerts as a child.

As an adult, she continued to compose and perform, despite facing resistance due to her gender. Her works were often performed in the United States and Europe, and she became known for her Romantic style, blending elements of European classical music with American folk melodies.

Some of her most famous works include her "Gaelic Symphony," "Piano Concerto," and "Mass in E-flat Major." She also composed a number of songs, chamber music, and choral works.

In addition to her work as a composer, Beach was a philanthropist and supporter of music education. She co-founded the Music School Settlement in Boston, which aimed to provide music education to underprivileged children.

Today, Amy Beach is recognized as one of the most important American composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Her legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians, and her contributions to the classical music canon are celebrated around the world.
