Big Ben is the nickname of the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, England. The clock tower itself is officially known as the Elizabeth Tower, in honor of Queen Elizabeth II. Big Ben weighs over 13 tons and was cast in 1858, and the clock it is a part of was completed in 1859. The clock tower stands at over 96 meters tall and is one of the most recognizable landmarks in London. The chimes of Big Ben have been broadcast by the BBC as part of their time signal since 1924, and it is a beloved symbol of British culture and history. Although the tower underwent renovations and repairs in recent years and its chimes have been silenced at times, it remains a popular tourist attraction and a beloved icon of London.
