Bacchus was the Roman god of wine, agriculture, and fertility. He was also known as Dionysus in Greek mythology. Bacchus was the son of Jupiter (Zeus) and Semele, a mortal princess. According to mythology, Semele was burned to death by Jupiter's lightning bolts while pregnant with Bacchus, but he was rescued and sewn into Jupiter's thigh until he was ready to be born.
